About the Journal
Learning Communities — International Journal of Learning in Social Contexts is an international, interdisciplinary scholarly journal dedicated to the study of learning within its broader social, cultural, institutional, community, and professional contexts. The journal provides a platform for researchers, educators, practitioners, policy makers, and community-based scholars to explore how learning is shaped by relationships, identities, cultures, places, institutions, technologies, and social change.
The journal welcomes high-quality original research, theoretical and conceptual studies, qualitative and quantitative research, mixed-methods studies, critical reviews, case studies, policy analyses, methodological contributions, and community-engaged scholarship. Its scope includes learning communities, Indigenous and First Nations education, cultural and linguistic diversity, social justice, inclusion, lifelong learning, higher education, professional and workplace learning, community education, digital learning, educational policy, and other interdisciplinary areas concerned with learning in social contexts.
A central focus of the journal is the understanding that learning does not occur in isolation. It is influenced by the social environments in which people live, work, participate, communicate, and create knowledge. The journal therefore encourages research that is contextually grounded, culturally responsive, theoretically informed, ethically conducted, and capable of contributing to both scholarly knowledge and practice.
Learning Communities — International Journal of Learning in Social Contexts follows a single-blind peer review process and is committed to rigorous, fair, constructive, and transparent editorial evaluation. The journal operates under a Diamond Open Access model, allowing authors to publish without standard article processing charges and enabling readers to access published research freely.
Articles are published under the Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 International License (CC BY 4.0), supporting the lawful sharing, adaptation, and reuse of published work with appropriate attribution. Through its open access and interdisciplinary approach, the journal seeks to promote inclusive scholarly communication and strengthen connections between research, education, communities, and practice across diverse local and international settings.
